Por que Calefação?

Throughout my life I’ve already doubted love … I have seen couples who were happy for many years exhausting their love and break it with mutual silence. I’ve seen a priest declaring things that made no sense to me, about the two becoming one, about the end of individuality, about divine rules and other taboos that I don’t believe in. I have seen unconditional lovers demand the impossible, become antagonists in tumultuous stories.

But I have also seen very beautiful things that are born out of love. I have seen small families that have remained united for decades, despite the mishaps of life. I have seen people that  shared no blood at all who built true families. I’ve seen couples who show themselves to be true companions, who respect each other tenderly and honestly. Some for a few years, others for a few decades. And I have seen so much evidence that love, even if it ends one day, is one of the strongest connections to the divine that two or more human beings can experience. And such a connection is only possible through attention in the present moment.

On July 15 I was in Germany to photograph the wedding of a couple of friends I met in Brasilia about 2 years ago, through climbing. Lukas, German, and Etoile, French, both fluent in the Portuguese and very dear for their “ability to remain children,” as one of the party guests reminded me in wise words. I accepted the invitation and challenge of photographing my first wedding, after 11 years as a professional photographer. I made some mistakes, but I learned a lot, and here I share my selection of the best clicks. The one before last, on the dance floor was clicked by Terena Castro, who asked me for the camera during the party 😉

Love, after all, seems quite possible to me.
